Barry and Penarth Model Railway Club

Former Members layouts - G: Strathcona

Canadian HO 3.5mm scale

This is one of the layouts built by the late Brian Scoulding. It was sold some years ago and is no longer available for exhibition by the club. However, we hope it will be shown in its current form at the Brian Scoulding memorial model railway exhibiton we are holding on Sunday July 6th 2008.

Strathcona is an imaginary location somewhere in Alberta, western Canada and is representative of the many small towns in the province where there is a rail link. Away from the main lines are networks of secondary routes linking towns and outposts where cattle, grain, agricultural needs and other general merchnadise required by the local inhabitants are handled.

The time window at Strathcona is in the late 50's through to the 60's when there were still some passenger workings serving the community.

Today you will see there is a thriving yard facility comprising a grain elevator, rail freight car repair workshops, feed mill and various warehouses dealing with general traffic. Strathcona also houses a small station depot and permanent way facilities which will require the yard switching locomotive to be kept busy all day.

The total dimensions of the layout including fiddle yard are just 12 foot by 2 foot.
