The idea of Ardingley came about whilst helping to build the off shoot of Machynlleth, Porth Dinllaen, the club “N Gauge” layout which is permantley fixed in the club rooms.

I decided that I should build my own layout for exhibitions as the club at this time has dismantled Bardale (the clubs “N Gauge” exhibition layout).

As I model in modern image I decided that it would be a run around with a fiddle yard at the rear and to keep it small so that I could get it in my car to transport. It was to have a through station with two platforms and a branch which would become the preserved railway line, to run the few steam trains that I have.

I also wanted a siding or two for goods which is being taken over by container traffic. There is a transport & warehouse facility served by another little branch line.

The fiddle yard has four up and four down lines with two lines for the preserved line which I’m hoping to be on a shuttle service.

There is a town with terraced houses, the usual pub and rows of shops including a hotel restaurant, bank, cinema/theatre, and a memorial in the small gardens (waiting for the flowers to grow). Beneath the flyover we have a few garages for the locals near the corner shop.

This is my first exhibition layout so there is more scenery to complete than in the pictures.
