Barry and Penarth Model Railway Club

Club Open Day

will be held on Saturday 13th November, 2010

Date is now confirmed.

  • It will be held at the Cadoxton Conservative Club, Vere Street, Cadoxton, Barry. (CF63 2HU)

Watch this web site for further details.

  • The exhibition will be open from 11.00am until 5.00pm. Admission £2.00, under 16s and OAPs £1.50.

  • Two of the club's fixed layouts will be on show and fully working, as well as the Kingswell Fairground. This is the one chance in the year to see them all alive and working. Cadoc Bluff, the former HO American layout is being completely rebuilt to include two spiral inclines, likewise the O-gauge rooms are being entirely rebuilt. It is hoped that some track will be available on both new layouts to show progress to date by the time of the Open Day. There will be at least six other layouts from N-gauge to O-gauge, including a number of personal layouts of club members.

  • The event will be supported by local traders.

  • Refreshments will be available.

The exhibition is held on the first and second floors of the Con. Club, which has no lift access - sorry.

The following club and members layouts are scheduled to appear:

The centrepiece in the concert room on the first floor will be:

  • a larger than usual demonstration of live steam G-scale on the stage area courtesy of Howie.

    In addition:

  • Bear Bottom Lumber Company - an American On30 logging line, with sound equipped locos. Built by member Tony, this was seen for the first time last year.

  • Ardingley . A new portable N gauge modern image layout with a small preservation line built by club member John Harding

  • Oliver's Road , Simon's latest layout depicting another diesel depot with sound in OO-gauge. Again operated with DCC and sporting a 'Woolnough' backscene.

  • Thomas and friends - Mike and his son Simon are bringing their own portable layout again to allow members of the public, especially the young at heart to run Thomas and co. Dave has done wonders as usual with his latest backscene, including Harold the helicopter.

  • Porthiain. This O-gauge layout was originally built by a former club member, who tragically died of cancer at a young age shortly after this single board was completed. It has now been completely rebuilt with just the baseboard and trackwork remaining. It now depicts a small industrial scene with half-relief buildings. The layout operates as a shunting puzzle layout and you can test your own skills, re-sorting the six wagons with a little four wheel tank engine.

  • Penthar Bay, another OO gauge layout depicting a sea-side terminous. This layout is run in the 1970's period with DCC. Some simplification of the station layout by BR is evident. The old semaphor signals are being dismantled, since two aspect colour lights are in operation.

  • The club's resident artist, Dave Woolnough, will also be present with his paints and paintings. He will be bringing his latest layout, which is apparently called Talyog!.

  • details of the other layouts to follow

Traders will include Lord & Butler, Amberley Services and Rickocraft

In addition, club member David Dacey will be selling some of his Dapol limited edition South Wales private owner coal wagons, as well as the club's own wagons
