Barry and Penarth Model Railway Club

Penarth Model Railway Show

The Club's last biannual exhibition took place on Sunday, 22nd July 2007 in the Paget Rooms, Penarth.

Layouts displayed:

Pictures taken at the show by Simon Evans

  • Addersleigh Junction, the club's new OO-gauge layout, which was seen for the first time at the Bristol Exhibition in Thornbury, in 2006. This is a modern image layout of a diesel multiple unit depot, with a preserved line in the foreground. The layout operates with DCC and much of the motive power has sound. The preserved line has a number of items of rolling stock being restored and the inevitable sleeping cars for volunteers. There is even a model railway inside a restored Thompson full brake van standing at the bay platform

  • Abbeywood, a new O-gauge layout from club member Mike Curtis, which made its first appearance at last year's Redruth Show in March. This is a small make-believe GWR branch terminous, with plenty of shunting opportunities.

  • the King's Well Fairground, which was donated to the club by Ray Kingswell in Summer 2006. This is an extensive fairground mainly constructed from continental Faller kits, with fully working fairground rides and lots of lights and other details.

  • Eagle Valley Shortline, american 0n30 narrow gauge layout from Cliff Farmer, seen for the first time at the All-American Open Day we held in June 2006.

  • Denis Powys, a double track main line station in GWR days, with loco shed (regularly supplied with coal!) and small goods yard. Another layout which operates with DCC control. Shunting in the yard makes use of Spratt & Winkle couplings and thus also operates automatically!! There are some beautifully modelled buildings on this layout, including the former post office in Penarth. Spot the longest stretched limo on a British layout!!

  • SCHARPS Park, Brian Scoulding's latest effort depicting Southern EMUs - delightful. This layout was seen at last year's Open Day for the first time. Unfortunately Brian is no longer well enough to operate the layout. However, the layout and some stock has been purchased by the Club Chairman, who ran it on the day.
