Barry and Penarth Model Railway Club

Club Open Day

will be held on Saturday 12th November, 2011

Date is now confirmed.

  • It will be held at the Cadoxton Conservative Club, Vere Street, Cadoxton, Barry. (CF63 2HU)

Watch this web site for further details.

  • The exhibition will be open from 11.00am until 5.00pm. Admission £2.00, under 16s and OAPs £1.50.

  • Two of the club's fixed layouts will be on show and fully working, two others are under construction, but some trains will run. This is the one chance in the year to see them all alive and working. Cadoc Bluff, the former HO American layout is being completely rebuilt to include two spiral inclines, likewise the O-gauge rooms are being entirely rebuilt. There will be at least six other layouts from N-gauge to O-gauge, including a number of personal layouts of club members.

  • The event will be supported by local traders.

  • Refreshments will be available.

The exhibition is held on the first and second floors of the Con. Club, which has no lift access - sorry.

    Download your own poster
for display in your clubrooms or elsewhere.

The following club and members layouts are scheduled to appear:

The centrepiece in the concert room on the first floor will be:

  • a larger than usual demonstration of live steam and electric G-scale on the stage area courtesy of Howie and junior member Robin.

    In addition:

  • Bear Bottom Lumber Company - an American On30 logging line, with sound equipped locos. Built by member Tony, this has a new extension seen in Lydney in September for the first time.

  • Abbeywood, a O-gauge layout from club member Mike Curtis, which is a small make-believe GWR branch terminous, with plenty of shunting opportunities.

  • Sip 'nd Switch- American HO-gauge. A small american shunting layout, built by former club member Keith, who died last Summer of cancer. It was acquired by another member who has now donated it to the club as another memorial layout.

  • Tawford A new OO-gauge layout from our new member Nick, who has joined us from Plymouth North Road Club.

SCHARPS Park, the last layout built by the later Brian Scoulding, depicting Southern EMUs - delightful. The layout now owned by David T. has been extended and runs with a mixture of some of Brian's vintage stock, plus modern offerings from the big two.

  • The club's resident artist, Dave Woolnough, will also be present with his paints and paintings. He will be bringing his delightful small layouts.

  • details of the other layouts to follow

Traders will include Lord & Butler, and Rickocraft

In addition, club member David Dacey will be selling some of his Dapol limited edition South Wales private owner coal wagons.
